On June 4 2025 President Trump issued a Proclamation titled Restricting the Entry of Foreign Nationals to Protect the United States From Foreign Terrorists and Other National Security and Public Safety Threats . This restricts travel into the U.S. by nationals from nineteen 19 countries Afghanistan Burma/Myanmar Burundi Chad Republic of the Congo Cuba Equatorial Guinea Eritrea Haiti Iran Laos Libya Sierra Leone Somalia Sudan Togo Turkmenistan Venezuela and Yemen. In addition Egypt is under review. Effective Date The travel ban became effective at 1201am Eastern Daylight Time on June 9 2025. There may be lawsuits challenging the travel ban. Court orders in those lawsuits could possibly block the ban. We will issue updates or clarifications as necessary. Impacted Countries The ban differentiates between immigrants who enter as legal permanent residents or green card holders and nonimmigrants who enter for limited periods of time for instance as visitors or students. Individuals Already Inside the U.S. The travel ban seems to limit only physical entry into the U.S. It seems that individuals already in the U.S. would still be eligible for adjustment of status immigrant visas or green cards or change of status from one nonimmigrant visa category to another.
